Resume Writing Service
If you don't have the time or know-how, perhaps a resume writing service can lend a hand. While many individuals write their own resumes, professional resume writers can help you fine-tune and polish an otherwise run-of-the-mill resume. Get your resume to the top of the pile with these tips from the professionals (as well as helpful links to some resume writing services).
Tip #1- Scented resumes and cover letters are not the norm! It was cute in the Legally Blonde movie, but it isn't something that will get you taken seriously. Skip the scents and stick to elegant and professional.
Tip #2- Depending on the career path you've chosen, the color of your resume paper may have an impact on whether you are invited to an interview or not. For example, white paper is considered the norm for banking jobs, whereas pale colored resume paper may be acceptable for artistic jobs.
Tip#3- Use real resume paper, not copier paper! Nothing screams unprofessional and tacky like someone who sends a resume on this lightweight paper. Inexpensive resume paper can be found at any office supply store as well as many retail stores.
Tip#4- Don't send a smudged copy of your resume. Check it when it comes out of the copier, make sure it has dried completely before folding it and sending it on to a prospective employer.
Tip#5- Your cover letter should be included on top of your resume. Just sending a resume doesn't tell a prospective employer why you are the best fit for a job they are offering. A resume lists your experiences but a cover letter can help convey your passion for a particular job. Write a three to four paragraph letter stating how you heard about the job opening, your relevant experience and why they should interview and hire you for the job. Don't forget to include your contact information and the best time to contact you by phone.
Tip#6- Be sure to include a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) for a reply. Many employers don't even bother to notify you if you haven't been selected for an interview (which is also unprofessional on their part). If you include a SASE, you are almost guaranteed a reply for your efforts.
Most professional resume writing services also include an option to send out cover letters and resumes to a list of employers of your choosing. This is often at an additional charge to cover the cost of copying charges, letter writing and postage costs. If you are fresh out of college or making a career change, this may be the quickest way to find a new job.
The average basic cost for a professional to perfect and polish your resume is $90, but the final cost will vary depending on the company and the level of services that you choose. Be sure that the resume writing service you choose offers a contact number before you plunk down your hard earned dollars. A few of the many professional resume writing services that can be found on the Internet include the following:
