A big part of self-publishing is getting your book out there once it has been published. Purchasing an ISBN will get your book listed in distributor catalogs, but it won't encourage people to buy your book. This is where a background in sales and marketing can help you. The following marketing methods can and should be used to promote your book:
.Start a blog- it is your business card on the Internet. Consider also creating a Facebook or YouTube account to generate interest in your book. If you aren't Internet savvy, now is the time to learn!
.Start your own website with either your name as an author or the title of your masterpiece. You may even want to create two separate websites for this.
.Either purchase or do-it-yourself public relations campaign to promote your book. This means getting the info about your book out to any and all media outlets, either nationwide or in your own state. This can generate lots of leads for you to do book signings and interviews with the media. Try Googling your search engine for book promotion and book marketing to find companies that offer these services.
.Purchase a media kit from your self-publisher to advertise your book. It can also be used in the aforementioned public relations blitz. This consists of posters, bookmarks, postcards and business cards.
.Send out your books and media kits to those places you identified in your public relations research.
.If you've done your work and research you should begin to see some activity from the media after word has gotten out. Then brace yourself for some traveling, phone interviews and other shameless promotion activities!
